When we sat down to brainstorm who to invite as a speaker/mentor/teacher for The Family Narrative, we knew that in addition to kick-ass photographers, we wanted to find people who represented a range of business models, target markets, experience levels, and teaching styles. We pulled together an amazing mixed bouquet of people who are different in so many ways - who they are, where they live, who they sleep with (or don’t sleep with), what they look like, etc. - but are all super-enthusiastic about this project and the prospect of creating real and meaningful change in the family photography world. Their strengths range widely and each will undoubtedly bring a new perspective to the group. We cannot wait to see this community come together!

Cristal is a proud Queer Chicana feminist who believes that family always comes first. After getting two higher education degrees, she discovered a love of wedding photography after seeing images of non-traditional couples doing things their own way.She felt a strong pull to document folks making decisions about what love looks like to them, and not compromising their values for societal standards, so she picked up a camera and found herself shooting a friend’s queer wedding 6 years ago. Since then, she got married and had an intimate wedding with her wife, complete with a backyard BBQ; chose to focus her business, Cristal Veronica Photos, solely on LGBTQ folks and people of color; and always feels super honored when folks seek her out as a photographer based on her niche. Cristal’s work has been featured on Buzzfeed, F*Yeah Gay Weddings, H&H Weddings, and Catalyst Wedding Magazine. Cristal lives in San Francisco with her wife Shimina and furkid Jasper; enjoys being a Tia and photographing her niece and nephew far too much; is constantly thinking of future tattoo ideas; wishes Tupac was still alive and making music; and is always craving sushi and donuts.
Dana Pugh is an award winning family and children's photographer from Okotoks, Alberta. In 2010, she was named the first ever, international Child Photographer of the Year by the National Association of Professional Children's Photographers. For that award, one of her images was displayed on a billboard in New York's Time Square. Since then, she has become known for her quest to capture natural expressions from all of the subjects who step in front of her camera. She is drawn to the imperfect and the chaos of family life as she believes that is where the true beauty of life resides. Amongst family photographers, she is known for her personal work of her own children whom she has been documenting for the last 11 years. Her family's innate sense of curiosity about the world has brought her to explore nighttime, underwater and environmental portraiture. In the 11 years that she has been documenting her children, they have travelled across North America, as well as to destinations such as Iceland, Belize, and Honduras. Her work is part documentary, part portraiture, and full of personality. Recently, she has become known for speaking out about female photographer's sense of self worth and teaches business courses designed to help family photographers earn a decent income for the time they spend away from their own families. Her clients include children's clothing lines, professional athletes and local celebrities, but, most importantly, amazingly awesome families from across north America.

Maria Lang is a freelance photographer specializing in film and honest photography. She is married to her best friend and together they have 3 children and call Calgary, Alberta, Canada home. The sincerity of a moment encapsulated in an image is what she is drawn to and strives for. Beauty comes in different forms and many perceptions. For Maria, t is a compilation of attributes with not one being more significant than the other, but as a whole, these facets intertwine to create something that makes us unpredictably feel something. And that feeling, is what pushes her to constantly invest in her art form. In more recent years, Maria has began to branch out into children’s fashion editorial and commercial work aand first emerged into this field doing a four month long campaign for ‘ZARA’ worldwide. When she is not behind a camera she is immersed in family time, dating her husband and the never ending renovation of her home.
My name is Reg, I'm a person with a camera who shoots people in San Antonio,Tx and abroad. I would like to think the ladies of Family Narrative asked me to teach because of my knowledge and shooting aesthetic but it might as well be for comic relief. I believe photography is how you individually see the world and is part of your personality. Photography to me is much more than pressing a shutter, it is your opinion in image form.

hello everyone! i'm wyn! i'm 24 years old and call nebraska, the smack dab in the middle of the U.S.A., home. i get to travel the world making photos for people and brands i love and it's pretty damn fantastic time. the clients i work with make my life full & some people i've taken photos for include martha stewart magazine, adidas, red bull, and pepsi along with hundreds of high school seniors, couples, families and friends. i'm known for my hug-you-in-the-first-three-seconds-of-knowing-you way i live my life and i love a good karaoke session.
lately, my focus has been directed at co-founding a non-profit called c'mon team! c'mon team! organizes trips to cities across the united states where groups of 20-30 creatives volunteer their time and talent to create new photos, videos and websites for other non-profits. it's been an incredible movement of using our talents to give back, impact cities and non-profits and be such a channel of positivity in the lives of those involved.
the final cog in the machine of what i do is speaking! and actually, i almost love speaking about photos more than taking them. over the past few years i've gotten to speak in canada, all around the U.S. and most special to me, i've gotten to speak to many high schools and middle schools. i've also gotten to give a TED talk when i was 18 and it was a really incredible experience. well that's me! i cannot wait to meet each and every one of you!
